BCG gives away Mini Cooper at 2007 Annual NALP Conference
Close up Andraea takes delivery of her Mini Cooper from Laura Rusche and Jamie Bailey of BCG's Chicago Office
Close up Andraea takes delivery of her Mini Cooper from Laura Rusche and Jamie Bailey of BCG's Chicago Office
One lucky BCG client left this year's National Association of Law Placement's Annual Conference with a little more than she bargained for; a brand new car! As a way of thanking our clients for their loyalty and for helping make 2006 another record year, BCG Attorney Search gave away an irresistible 2007 Mini Cooper!

Andraea, the Mini Cooper and a big red bow!
Andraea, the Mini Cooper and a big red bow!
This year's conference was held at the picturesque Keystone Resort, a skier's paradise nestled in beautiful Keystone, Colorado. Even the altitude and snowfall couldn't stop hiring professionals from across the US from attending the annual event. In addition to discussing the dynamic series of sessions arranged by NALP, the hot topic of the conference was definitely our Mini Cooper giveaway! The buzz centered on who would win; when the drawing was going to be held; and if had we driven the sporty little car up the winding, snow-lined mountain roads.
Andraea finally gets behind the wheel!
Andraea finally gets behind the wheel!

One the day of the exciting giveaway, thousands of hopeful conference attendees crowded around BCG's booth. There wasn't even standing room, only a sea of faces! If there had been a conference session at this time (there wasn't fortunately), it would have been quite empty! BCG's General Manager, Simon Cairns, announced the lucky winner; Andraea Carlson, Lateral Recruiting Manager for Thompson Hine in Cleveland. Instead of presenting Andraea with the keys (and a three day drive to Cleveland), arrangements were made for Jamie Bailey, Managing Director Chicago and Laura Rusche, a BCG recruiter located in Chicago, to present the fabulous Mini Cooper to Andraea a little closer to home.

Mona Miller On July 23 Juriscape welcomes life coach, author, entertainer, and CEO of the Communication Arts Company, Mona Miller. Mona will be speaking to us about "Invisible Warfare" which is her step-by-step guide to understanding ourselves and the reasons why we experience anxiety and conflict in our relationships. Miller will take us on a journey through the illusions and games we play in life from a place of fear. While the battles in life may appear to be with others, they all start from a common place, inside of ourselves. Mona Miller addresses the key issues we face as human beings to bring an end the ever raging war inside ourselves.

After enjoying a successful career as an entertainer—comedienne, singer, pianist, songwriter and actress—Mona Miller utilized aspects of those experiences to create a revolutionary self-realization program for people and businesses that have made her a widely respected life coach, author, lecturer, teacher and business consultant.

Mona has enjoyed a wildly varied career, including stints as a pageant queen, lead television roles on series such as Magnum P.I., singing on cruise ships, performing one woman comedy shows, and counseling troubled youth.

In 1992, Mona Miller launched the Communication Arts Company, starting with one client. Through that client's word of mouth, the firm began to steadily build...and build. Today Mona teaches two classes and sees 50 individual clients a week, and her program has a two-year waiting list. She regularly talks by phone with clients in New York, Florida, Michigan, Arizona, Ohio, New Jersey and Texas, as well as folks in Germany, England, Colombia, Mexico and Canada.

"I have coached people in all walks of life: the military, cops, doctors, CEOs, lawyers, high-priced call girls, kids and families," explains Miller, who is an unorthodox cognitive-behaviorist teacher and coach.

"My company is about understanding human behavior, thoughts, feelings and patterns. It's about communication and using the arts—writing, music and movies—to tap into the subconscious mind. Each second, 23 subliminal pictures go through the mind, and I have learned how to use writing techniques to help people catch their subconscious and ultimately affect negative thinking and behavior. I have taught intimidating people to become self-aware and change their thinking and belief systems, through subliminal replacements. A key to my program is non-judgmental self-observation. We replace tension with awareness and creativity; and we learn to live with confidence—not from ego."

Dr Karen ShermanDr. Karen Sherman, a NYS licensed psychologist, will be speaking to the company about stress management. Karen has been in private practice for over 20 years. Dr. Sherman moved into motivational psychology and marriage counseling from her own troubled past. As someone who grew up under difficult circumstances, Dr. Sherman developed a keen awareness of others' problems. Drawing on personal experience as well as academic training, she relates to a much broader arc of life situations than most.

"For many years, my life was an emotional roller coaster," Dr. Sherman says. "Growing up, I was exposed to horribly negative life situations, and as an adult, it seemed that I was a slave to them." It was upon realizing that she was still reacting to her earlier experiences that the first inkling of what would become the Art of Choice appealed to her, allowing her to change her circumstances, and directing the rest of her professional life. Speaking of her transition, Dr. Sherman recalls, "I realized that I no longer wanted my past to define who I was. That was a choice I could make, and I did. My past no longer haunts me; in fact, I am thankful for what I experienced since I have used each situation to help me to grow. It is from my journey that I know that you, too, can choose not merely to react to all the things that happen around you- whether they trigger something from your past or are things that are happening today- but to make powerful choices." Dr. Sherman sees her role as a facilitator of those difficult choices. Her mission is to assist others in freeing themselves from their own past cycles of behavior, as she freed herself.

Dr. Sherman has a strong commitment to the growth of her clients, and to that end she continuously seeks to grow professionally herself, assimilating what she learns from her studies, master classes, and seminars into her own array of workshops and lectures. As a result, the Art of Choice is a living, evolving organism that grows with the experience of both Dr. Sherman and those with whom she works.

Dr. Sherman is also an expert in relationship counseling and an author on the topic. Her recent book, Marriage Magic! Find It, Keep It, Make It Last, co-authored with communications expert Dale Klein, is a compendium of wisdom earned through both her professional and personal experiences.

Dr. Sherman is frequently interviewed as an expert by the news media for human-interest stories. She also serves on the faculties of two colleges on Long Island, New York, where she resides with her husband and two daughters. She is looking forward to speaking with us about managing stress in our daily lives.
